Inspired by the hand-carved mahogany medallion on the shadow rail of the John Brown House staircase, I created a hypothetical re-brand of the museum.
The re-brand highlights the artistry that characterizes the 18th-Century home by focusing attention on the polished wood grain and asymmetry of the medallion: reminders of the unknown, unnamed craftsman who carved it.
The blend of modern and antique style grounds the re-brand in the impressive legacy of Rhode Island craftsmanship. The seal logo takes inspiration from university branding, a nod to the scholarly traditions of the Rhode Island Historical Society.
